David Pascal
I am a sport fencer in foil and a HEMA athlete in smallsword and cup-hilt rapier. I hold a Level 2 coaching qualification from the Royal Spanish Fencing Federation (RFEE) and a Level 3 in Historical Fencing from A.S.I. Italy. I teach at Academia da Espada.
My work combines competition experience with close reading of period treatises. The goal is simple: understand how these swordsmen actually fought, and make that knowledge usable in the salle today.
From a very young age, I became interested in both competitive and historical fencing, and to this day I have trained in both as two sides of the same coin. I have been fortunate enough to practice other martial arts, such as Aikido and Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu, as a complement, but my fascination has always been centered on our European fencing traditions.
